Get Recognized for Your Conservation Efforts – Apply for an Award!
The Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) wants to recognize YOU for practicing conservation! They have recently debuted their Backyard Conservation Annual Award Program to recognize homeowners, homeowner associations, non-profit groups, small businesses, and commercial/industrial companies who are utilizing Backyard Conservation Practices to improve our soil and water quality and create or enhance wildlife habitat.
The winners of the award program will be commended in press releases and the SWCD’s newsletter and website. They will also be recognized at the SWCD’s Annual Meeting next March and receive one of several great prizes: a rain barrel from Automatic Irrigation Supply Company, a flat of native plants from Native Plants Unlimited, or bird nest boxes or feeders or Cool Creek Concert tickets from the Hamilton County Parks Department!
Applications for the Backyard Conservation Annual Award Program are not due until October 15, 2010, so you have the entire summer to plan and install your ideal backyard conservation area! Then visit www.hamiltonswcd.org or call the SWCD office at (317) 773-2181 for an award program description and application! Winners will be notified in December.
Aside from recognizing the individuals and entities mentioned above, the SWCD also wants to recognize land development professionals who are doing an environmentally-responsible job. The Award Program for Excellence in Conservation Land Development was launched last year and aims to recognize developers utilizing conservation measures in residential and commercial developments. Again, visit the SWCD’s website or call their office for more information.
By applying for these award programs or nominating someone you feel is worthy, you are gaining recognition for the hard work and effort you put into creating a healthier and more sustainable environment in Hamilton County, not to mention the great prizes and pats on the back you will receive!
